Feathers Everywhere
Peacocks! What could be a more familiar site at the Convent of the Visitation? It all started in 1972, when Sr. Mary Regina had a vision of how pastoral the fields of the Convent could be, dotted with horse, deer, swans, peacocks and other country companions.
Her search for animals led to the purchase of the first 2 peacocks on May 22, 1972. Sarah and Abraham became the parents of the future generations of peacocks at Visitation. Although no grand pastoral dream was fulfilled, the Convent did eventually own two sheep. In a contest for Visitation students, sheep names were submitted and the names Priscilla and Drusilla were chosen by the Sisters. Sister Mary Denise could be seen in the early morning and late evening tethering the sheep in the field! Later Sister Mary Regina bottle feed baby goats at the Convent.
Currently the peacock pen holds 4 males, 4 females and 1 young peacock, born in May of 2008.
